“I do not wish the ordinary reader to read no modern books. But if he must read only the new or the old, I would advise him to read the old.”
- C.S. Lewis

At the Hearth with Lewis is a gathering of “ordinary readers” seeking to grow by exploring old books full of marvelous truths beautifully written. We meet seasonally on Zoom, and occasionally at VCC’s downtown coffee shop Inklings Coffee & Tea, to read and discuss classic books written by Lewis, books that inspired Lewis, and books written in the spirit of Lewis.

UPCOMING EVENTS

On 9.17 we will be beginning with the C.S. Lewis classic The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Join the Pevensie siblings Edmund and Lucy (and their obnoxious cousin, Eustace) on a return seagoing voyage to Narnia.

As the children face enchanted objects, invisibility spells, and dragons, we’ll face down the diabolical forces in our own lives and remind ourselves never to give the devil credit for what God is doing.

We will meet on Sundays via Zoom (starting on 9.17 at 8PM), and the final meeting will be an in-person event at Inklings Coffee & Tea. You do not need to have read the earlier books to participate. In fact, you don’t even need to read this book to participate, because our resident thespian Stephanie Ann will read each chapter aloud for you. Meetings skew toward adult conversation, but all ages who can stay up past 8PM are most welcome. Email Ellen Gray at bookclub@vc.church to sign up. Grab a cup of tea (and a copy of the book), and we’ll meet you at the hearth!
