PROJECT UPDATES

Building For Family | September 3, 2023

What a joy it was to celebrate with our church family, the Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor of Pleasanton, Karla Brown. Thank you to everyone who helped make this vision a reality!

Building For Family Update | July 5, 2023

Our Families Building soft opening this past Sunday was wonderful! It was so special to see VCC Kids' elementary group and DM's Friendship Class in their new spaces and see them received with such enthusiasm. There are more details to finish up before our GRAND OPENING on 9.3.23 - until then we are so grateful for what's already in place!

In God’s good timing, the VCC Kids team was able to offer sports camp using the new building and playground this week! We’re certainly not wasting any time now that construction is wrapping up.

It’s only steps to the finish line and we are praying for a strong finish. Our work this week has shifted largely to site cleanup and preparation for our soft opening on Sunday!

Third time’s the charm! We passed our fire inspection on Monday and will have our life safety inspection this week on Wednesday or Thursday - please pray it goes well. Also, with the passing of our fire inspection, we’ll be submitting paperwork for our temporary occupancy permit this week. Lord willing, the children and disability ministry teams will start moving in next week and we hope to have the building operational and in use by Sunday July 2nd. This will be our soft opening and second one-service Sunday of the summer! Come celebrate God’s goodness and continued blessing with a Fourth of July BBQ after the service.

I’ll quote my brother Pastor Bryan, “We’re soooooo close!” After dealing with findings from the fire alarm inspection last week and completing a life safety inspection this week, we are praying for a temporary occupancy permit by Friday. Please continue to pray that we would achieve this major milestone so our children and disability ministry teams can start the exciting process of moving in to the new building!

Outside, landscaping continues to go in with irrigation and fencing being worked on this week. We are so grateful for your continued faithfulness in giving and patience as we continue to work through the final details of this massive project.

Although we were not able to celebrate opening our new building this past Sunday, it was an incredible joy to see our whole family together to celebrate what God has been doing in and through Valley Community Church. If you missed it, be sure to put September 3rd on your calendar for the grand opening of the new building. As we look forward to that day, it is exciting to see tasks continue to get checked off and this week in particular is the fire alarm inspection which is a critical gating item for our temporary occupancy permit. The inspection is scheduled for Thursday, so please pray that it would go smoothly and that there would be no cause for delays.

The final major concrete pour of the project was completed last week and I’m pretty sure I heard the cozy coupes humming with excitement for the new raceway. This week, the playground drainage system will be installed along with tan bark and decomposed granite. With playground work wrapping up, landscaping efforts turn to the field area with final grading and installation of the irrigation system.

Please pray for the final items on our checklist to be signed off this week so we can receive our temporary occupancy permit.

Building For Family Update | May 24, 2023

There is so much happening on the new building as our team works diligently to finish! This week they will finish setting all of the concrete forms and pouring the concrete. They will also be filling the landscaping areas, inspecting the fire and life safety and continuing the work on the playground and signage.

We are looking forward to the ribbon cutting and official grand opening of this beautiful building on September 3, until then continue please to pray for all of those who are working to bring it to completion.

“The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” Proverbs 16:9

Despite the tireless efforts of our construction team, our general contractor, our pastoral staff and ministry leads, and our facilities and tech teams, it has become clear that the new building will not quite be ready for a grand opening on June 4. The delays caused by weather this year ended up being just a little too much to recover from. As a result, we are going to postpone the grand opening of the building to a later date.

However, we still have much to celebrate in two weeks with baptisms, the launching of a Compassion Center in Guatemala with our partners at Compassion International, and the joy of sending the Hardesty family on a well-earned sabbatical. So, while it is disappointing not to kick off the summer by opening our new children and disability ministry building, we praise God that He is directing our steps and that He has blessed us so abundantly that we can still have an excellent party without that!

With much anticipation and prayer we’ve waited for the groundwork to be completed in preparation for the installation of the playground. Over the past couple of weeks, the mud pit out back has transformed and is finally ready for the installation of the new playground equipment. Lord willing, when you come on-site this Sunday you’ll see a play structure back there and the large piles of dirt will be hauled away, so you should be able to get a good sense for the overall space we’ll have to host celebrations and parties in the coming years.

Speaking of which, this week also marks the start of the final month of project work before our grand opening celebration on June 4th. Please mark your calendars and be thinking of those friends, family, and neighbors you’ve been waiting for that perfect excuse for to invite to church. This will be a Sunday you don’t want to miss.

Building For Family Update | May 3, 2023
By Stephen Marshall, Elder

Last week, a few key members of our construction team, some staff members, and the architect performed a walk-through of the interior of the new building with the general contractor for the purpose of generating a punch list of final items to be completed inside before we can begin moving in. So, while there is still quite a lot going on outside, the interior of the building is ver nearly finished!

Outside, groundwork will continue as long as weather permits. So, while we are thankful for even more rain this week, please continue to pray that it would be sent in a way that does not negatively impact the job site.

Last night, 27 middle school and high school students from our student ministries were baptized in the gathering place. During testimonies, several of the students displayed fruit that is a result of seeds which were planted in our children’s ministry program. This week, walls will get their final coats of paint inside and flooring will be installed. Outside, we will continue to see our new playground area take shape with more ground prep taking place. And while all this is going on, we can count our blessings as a church family to have such deep and robust family ministry resources as we seek to raise up the next generation of the global church in the Tri-Valley.

Building For Family Update | April 19, 2023
The most significant step this week on site was the removal of our historic portable! Some additional updates include: the counter tops and sinks are being installed, grading is being done for the play area curb and play area, and the building doors are set to arrive. Progress is being made and we are so thankful for the construction team and many VCC volunteers that are keeping this project on track!

Building For Family Update | April 12, 2023

This week we had several volunteers working alongside our Operations team to prep the portable for haul-away next week. A very special thank you to Rick Wolff, Kevin Sousa, Julian Riccomini and Stephen Wong for their hard work on cutting away the ramps, sidewalks, and disconnecting utilities. This was a very dirty, physical job and we truly appreciate all of our volunteers who stepped up to assist!

Our VCC staff mobilized on Tuesday to relocate all of the portable furniture and supplies to other temporary storage areas. There were a few "bittersweet good-byes" as many of our team and leaders grew up learning about Jesus in that very portable. What a blessing it is to celebrate all that God has done and will do as we prepare for this new chapter!

Work on the various systems of the building continues to wind down this week with some key inspections taking place. There will be several sets of inspections in the coming weeks as well, so please pray that they go smoothly so we can continue to wrap various efforts up.

Building For Family Update | March 29, 2023

Each week's jobs are starting to sound more and more like 'project end' jobs. Things like hydrotest sprinklers, restroom fixtures, pressure wash sidewalks, and site cleanup are all very encouraging to hear as we get closer and closer to our grand opening. However, the most exciting job for this week by far is the installation of the accessible climbing wall in the Disability Ministry room!

What a privilege we have as a church to serve this most often forgotten and neglected demographic of the family of God and what joy it is to see the careful and thoughtful planning that has gone into preparing this new space for maximum benefit of families who are impacted by disability. Behind the climbing wall are the prayers, verses, and benedictions shared by all of you. On this wall in the coming years will be the hands and feet of those who will experience the love of their almighty creator through the ministry of VCC. Please lift up Lilian Jewell our Disability Ministry Director and the entire team in prayer this week as they prepare to move again from the last remaining portable into another temporary spot before their final move into their beautiful new ministry space.

Building For Family Update | March 22, 2023
By Stephen Marshall, Elder

The various systems of the new building are maturing this week with fire sprinklers, security/fire alarm electrical wiring, electrical panels, HVAC units, and ducting being installed at various locations around the building. Additionally, one critical piece of the design that I haven't highlighted yet are the concrete boxes and cylinders placed strategically around the building, which will continue to be worked on this week. After all the rain we've had this winter, it seems fitting to explain those to you now. For those of you with an eye for detail and a good memory, you may have noticed that the storm water retention pond that was originally planned to go in between the bell tower and the Hall was never started. Well, thanks to your faithful prayers and the diligent work of our construction team, our architect, and our engineering contractors, we were able to come up with a new plan to handle storm water run-off which eliminated the significant cost of creating that retention pond (not to mention the loss of very valuable nine-square space). Instead, these multi-function biswale boxes will provide an attractive aesthetic and natural means of retaining and filtering storm water before it leaves our property. Thank you again for your prayers, they are truly making a difference for this critical project.

In addition to a host of projects continuing to progress, the interior of the building will start to see its first coats of paint this week! This serves as a reminder of how close we are to having this project completed. With that in mind, we want to urge you all again to continue to lift this project up in prayer - especially as the end is drawing near. Please continue to pray that the impacts to the project of supply chain challenges and this unusual weather would be minimal. In particular, please pray for our ministry and tech teams as they work on the myriad of details surrounding the equipping, furnishing, and preparing of this new building for ministry.

Building For Family Update | March 8, 2023
On Monday, the rep for Mobile Modular was on campus to assess how best to remove the last portable now that we have a new building and high curbs to navigate around!  Pray for their wisdom in determining the best removal options. Removal will take place after Easter. We will need volunteers to help our maintenance team perform extensive prep work beforehand. This will includes partial removal of concrete sidewalks, ramps, railings, bushes, etc. Contact Daniel Lopez if interested in helping.

Thank you all so much for showing up for Sharpie Sunday! It was amazing to see the building already filled with life and laughter even at this stage in the process. It was also encouraging to read the various prayers and messages offered by our congregation for future generations - how wonderful it will be in eternity to observe and reflect on the multitude of ways God will answer those prayers!

As you will have seen, much progress has been made on the building, but much more needs to be finished before we open this summer. Please continue to pray for wisdom for our construction team and contractors and for limited impacts to the project from supply chain issues.

Building For Family | February 15, 2023
By Stephen Marshall, Elder

A lot of the same work is going on around the building this week as there was last week, but you may be wondering what is happening in the playground area. Well, over the last month, we placed orders for all of the playground equipment, but as you can imagine, the lead times on these things are fairly long. Please pray that we don't get impacted by hiccups in the supply chain as the equipment is currently scheduled to arrive in May, so we don't have a lot of time for delays.

In the meantime, our general contractor has been doing a great job with various engineering firms to finalize the details of the storm drainage system in the playground area. These are detailed adjustments that could only be made once we had equipment ordered so we could identify installation points for all of it. Given the time we have before the playground equipment arrives, we are comfortable that all of this will be sorted out before we need to install it.

I hope I'm not the only one who enjoyed watching ants busily working on ant hills as a kid, but if you didn't get the chance to do so when you were younger, you have a great opportunity this week at our jobsite. There is a laundry list of tasks going on inside and outside of the building: And just like an ant hill, what you can see on the surface is only a fraction of the activity that is going on compared to what is happening inside.

-Outside, we have soffit plywood and vents being installed and continued work on the siding (which is looking so good if you ask me).

-Inside, we have the start of taping and texturing of the recently installed drywall, window sills being installed with the first round of caulking, skylights being roughed in, rough electrical in the ceilings, and rough mechanical work on the main HVAC system (framing for stand alone units in the storage areas being completed last week).

As you can imagine, and as usual, we cherish your prayers over the logistics and safety on the jobsite with all of these activities going on.

Building For Family | February 1, 2023
By Stephen Marshall, Elder

We're continuing to see progress made on storm drains, siding, and soffits outside and electrical and sheetrock inside and things are looking beautiful! You may be thinking, "But what about Sharpie Sunday? How are we going to write on the studs with sheetrock covering the walls?" That's a great question, and we won't be writing on the walls. Instead, come Sunday 2.26, we will be inscribing prayers, scripture, and messages on the floor of the new building. Think of all the beautiful feet who will literally be walking on the Word of God and prayers of the saints every week as they are ministered to in VCC Kids, Kid's comGroup, Friendship Class, Shining Light Preschool, and a multitude of other ministry opportunities made possible in this new space. Be sure to put February 26th on your calendar, because there will be more than just Sharpies to celebrate the work God is doing in and through our church family.

Building For Family | January 25, 2023

The sun is out and construction on our new building is moving along beautifully. This week the electrical work & siding installation continue, sheetrock started going up, and the installation of the exterior soffits began (finishing work on the underside of the eaves and sidewalk overhangs).

Lastly, with the rain subsiding work has started on the storm drains as well. Our SLP kids really enjoyed watching the backhoe digging a trench through their old playground.

  • The rains came down and the floods came up, but our new little house has stood firm on its strong foundation. In the wake of last week's storm, I can't help but reflect on the impacts the ministries that will be housed in the new building will have on our community and how they mimic the raising of this new facility. I know from first hand experience - as I am sure many of you do as well - the solid foundation our children's ministry provides to budding believers, and the safety and security provided by our disability ministry mimics that of our newly completed roof and walls for families who yearn for respite from the storms of life. Praise God for his provision and protection.

  • Electrical, insulation, and siding installation continues this week, and with the break in weather on the forecast, we should be able to start exterior underground work again soon.

Building For Family Update | January 11, 2023
By Stephen Marshall, Elder

Two praises to reflect on this week. First, we are thankful that God has delivered this much needed rain. Second, we are thankful that we were able to get the building dried in prior to its arrival! As a result, interior work on the building has continued on schedule with electrical work continuing inside to the point where we are able to start laying insulation in the walls and ceilings this week.

In addition to this you'll be able to see siding starting to go up on the outside followed up window and door trim. We are very excited to see the outside start to look a little more finished even though the inside is still raw.

The rain has continued to put a hold on exterior site work for storm drains, which can only continue once the ground has dried out. Although we don't want to see an end to the rain in the long term, please be praying that the delays will not impact our overall construction project.

Building For Family Update | January 4, 2023

Even with record rainfall in our area we are still making progress as we Build for Family.

  • This week the crew is finishing rough electrical and running a hydro test on the fire alarm sprinklers this Friday. They are also working on a fire alarm system integration between the new building and our sanctuary building. Upgrading old equipment as needed.

  • The team is adding insulation around the door frames and windows in the coming days.

  • The rain is putting us behind schedule on getting our storm drains installed with the ground being too muddy to bring in the equipment.  Please pray that the ground will dry up soon and the we are able to get back on schedule!

  • We are dried in! Tyvek wrapping finished last week which means the new building is  substantially protected from the elements now. This week, we’ll also get to see the shingle roofing go on which I am excited to watch on the live stream.

  • Inside, rough electrical work continues and the sprinkler system will be installed this week as well.

  • Finally, our exterior doors should be installed this week, including our welcome center doors. As I consider the hundreds of pairs of feet that will cross the thresholds of these doors, I am humbled to think that, of the multitude ways he may have made himself known, the God of the universe has chosen us to bring his good news to the lost. Praise him this Christmas season for his goodness and love.

  • Rain delays last week sadly put a hold not only on Sharpie Sunday, but other construction progress as well. It's difficult seeing our building so close to being dried in when the rain comes, but I am reminded by this situation that God's timing is his own and His purposes are higher than ours. We continue to trust His good hand of provision and thank Him for the much needed rain for our state.

  • This week, we will start rough electrical work, continue with Tyvek wrapping of the exterior, and execute more work on underground storm drains.

  • Please pray that weather related delays would be minimal and that the construction workers, equipment, and our existing and new facilities would be under God's good protection.

Building For Family Update | December 7, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

Several jobs are going on this week inside and outside of the new building, but the most exciting work is the preparation of walkways to give us all access to the building this Sunday for Sharpie Sunday. If you haven't already heard, we will be taking time this Sunday to write scriptures, prayers, dedications, and benedictions on the insides of the walls of the building. We hope you are able to join us as we take some time to commit this structure to the Lord's good care.

  • We are feeling particularly thankful this week after a majority of the roof sheathing has been installed. After framing over the welcome center is finished this week, final sheathing can be put up and we are that much closer to being dried in.

  • With the building being sheathed, there will be less to see on the livestream as work continues inside the building, like electrical work going on this week.

  • We have an exciting opportunity to leave our marks on this new building on December 11th (Sharpie Sunday) and take a look at the inside in person - - click here for details.

Building For Family Update | November 16, 2022

This week we will see roof sheeting (plywood) going up as well as the roof framing over our patio sidewalks. The beginning stages for the plumbing and the installation of solar diffusers (sky lights) in classrooms. Be sure to check out the Live Stream to see it all coming together!

Building For Family Update | November 9, 2022

  • As my daughter said when we arrived at Kids comGroup last night... "Whoah! Look at the roof! When did they do that?" This last week has been dedicated to installing the trusses so we can get this building dried in before much more rain comes. And with this progress, our new building is really starting to take shape. The remainder of the week will be dedicated to the final pieces of roof structure which will be followed with sheathing and waterproofing in the coming weeks.

  • But roof construction is not the only change. Those with a discerning eye may also notice that the sidewalks around the new building have been poured as well. Praying this week for the thousands of precious children whose feet who will walk those sidewalks into Sunday School and Preschool classrooms over the coming decades - that God would win their hearts and build His kingdom through them.

Building For Family Update | November 2, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-Thank you for your prayers! The roof trusses are scheduled to arrive today and will immediately begin to be installed. With the rain starting to come, we don’t want to waste any time getting a roof over our new building. Kids young and old will enjoy seeing the crane operate this week on the live stream or Timelapse.

-We’ll also take advantage of the break in rain to pour the sidewalks around the new building. Pray that the weather holds up, and praise for the life bringing rain that God is providing.

by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-As you can see, the walls for the new building have gone up very quickly - Praise the Lord! We are now waiting for the trusses to arrive so the roof can be built. We are also waiting for some flashing material to be delivered so that the concrete pours for the sidewalks can be completed. Please pray that delays in the supply chain would be eliminated as they can cause cascading issues in project execution.

-In the meantime, the footings for the new playground equipment, which was ordered a couple weeks ago because it comes with a long lead time, are being laid out. New irrigation lines are being placed as well. Pray for smooth scheduling of subcontractors in general in order to minimize schedule delays.

-Lastly, if you've enjoyed tuning in to the live stream on the website, you'll be happy to see we've added another camera angle to show a view of the western wing of the new building as well as a different look at the playground area.

Building For Family Update | October 19, 2022

-The asphalt patching will begin soon. This includes laying asphalt on alley road and will open up the eastern parking lot adjacent to parking garage by Wednesday.

-We are scheduled to pour concrete for the new building sidewalks on Wednesday, October 19th.

-The crew will continue putting up sheer walls (exterior walls).

-The front entrance to VCC Kids Welcome Center is really taking shape!

Building For Family Update | October 12, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

- The walls of the new building continue to go up with great speed. What a privilege it is to watch this new ministry space take shape right in front of our eyes.

- If you want a front row seat (as Denise Garcia calls it) seeing the building go up, you can check out a 30 day time-lapse on the website and see us go from forms on the bare ground to a building with walls in a matter of just a few minutes.

- This week, you’ll start to see ceiling joists go in as we get closer to having a roof and curbs will go in around the new building and the east alleyway.

Building For Family Update | October 5, 2022

-We are excited to report that the framing for the walls is going up quickly. The crew also started the prep work for putting in curbs around the back of the new building and down the alley road. If everything continues on schedule they will pour the concrete for the curbs next Tuesday. If you have not checked out the progress lately - be sure to walk by the site on Sunday!

Building For Family Update | September 28, 2022

-This week marks a major milestone for our building project and an awesome opportunity to tune in on the live stream. The pad for the new building will be poured on Thursday. Please be praying that all goes smoothly and that our foundation will be strong for decades to come.

Building For Family Update | September 21, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-It was great to celebrate vision casting for the new year this past weekend and we look forward in anticipation for Vision Sunday to be celebrated on the new playground and lawn in sight of the gathering place and in front of a brand new childrens and disability facility! Praise God for His provision and pray for His continued blessing on us and our community through our every member mission.

-Even with the rain this past week, progress continues to be made on the new building foundation. Concrete will be poured around the footings and then the base layer of gravel and vapor barrier will go down ahead of the big slab pour in a few weeks.

-Things are starting to wind down with the trenches through the East alleyway. Thank you again for your patience!

Building For Family Update | September 14, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-The electrical service to the new building continues to be laid down in the east alleyway (between VCC and Amador sports fields). We expect these trenches to remain open for another couple weeks before the east parking lot will be open again. Thank you for your patience during this phase of the project.

-Rebar for the footings around the new building pad will be laid this week in preparation for pouring the foundation.

-As we come to Vision Sunday, let us be reminded that our every member mission to make, mature, and mobilize apprentices of Jesus begins with the youngest and least of these in the tri-valley who will be served out of this new building. Please be praying for this project, that the Lord’s good hand would continue to guide us.

Building For Family Update | September 8, 2022

-We are refilling the trench for the fire water line and pressurizing the system. (The fire line runs through our East alley way and turns left behind the building pad to the new hydrant in the West parking lot).

-We will trench the alley way for electrical conduit, which runs parallel to the new fire line.

-We are beginning to lay underground plumbing in the building pad.

-The fencing configuration between the parking garage and our Gathering Place will continue to change but we will always make sure to have pedestrian access.

Building For Family Update | August 31, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

- Asphalt repairs have been completed in the impacted areas around the front of the church. Normal ADA parking spots and a new pedestrian ramp located near the front of the sanctuary will be available for use this weekend. Additionally, the western entrance to the church parking lot (next to Tiffany Lane entrance) will be open as well.

- The alleyway that runs between the portables and Amador sports field will remain closed for several more weeks while trenching and laying of underground utilities are underway. Pedestrian access from the parking garage to the gathering place will remain available on the weekends, but may be impacted at times on week days.

- Work on the foundation for the new building has started this week and will continue for several more weeks. To see live progress, check out the webcam on our website!

Building For Family Update | August 24, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

 - Excavation and underground work for ADA and pedestrian ramps and utilities for the new building is complete. Curbs and concrete pads will be poured this week and asphalt repairs will be completed next week. This means there will be no more walkway hazards near classrooms, but ADA access parking spots will be closed off for one more week until the asphalt repair is complete.

- The base for the new building pad has been signed off, so initial staking for the foundation can start.

- Financially, we are in excellent shape at this stage of the project. Giving to the building for family fund has matched prior commitments - Thank you for your generous and faithful giving. Additionally, new commitments have been made to the project in recent months as well. The building for family leadership team has been greatly encouraged by your faithfulness and God's good provision. We pray that, through your sacrifice and generosity, countless children and families will learn as we do from the Jesus Storybook Bible of God's "Never-Stopping, Never Giving Up, Unbreaking, Always and Forever Love" for them.

Building For Family Update | August 17, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

- Backfilling the hole for the base to the new building pad is officially complete - and it is looking great! Attention has been turned to other excavation and underground work around campus, so we won’t see forms for the foundation coming in yet.

- Repairs and updates to ADA access areas and pedestrian ramps have been slightly delayed, so access will still be limited this Sunday (8/21). Thank you so much for your patience and please reach out if you need additional assistance to access the sanctuary/campus on Sunday or throughout the week.

- Trenches near the classrooms are not going to be filled in yet on Sunday (they will be covered with plywood) so please be aware of walkway hazards near the gathering place.

- We are also widening the west entrance (near Tiffany Lane) to provide improved access for the fire department. Ground work has started for that this week. Please be aware of changes in that area when you are coming on-site.

Building For Family Update | August 10, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-Additional dirt was brought in and tested last week and final filling and compaction for the base to our foundation will recommence this week. After that, we expect to start seeing concrete forms for the new building pad being set up.

-Underground work for utilities is ongoing this week. Trenching will effect access to some our existing classrooms this week. All active construction areas will be fenced off during the week and holes/trenches will be covered on Sundays to allow access for Sunday School. Please follow all posted signage and keep an eye out for uneven surfaces during drop-off and pick-up for Sunday School.

-Finally, saw cutting and prep work for the improvements to ADA access features at the front of the church are happening as well. The ramps will be fenced off this week, but we expect to pour new ramps and repair the asphalt so the ramps will be available again by Friday, August 19th. In the meantime, temporary ADA access ramps have been set up temporary ramp somewhere adjacent to the front sanctuary.

Building For Family Update | August 3, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

-While that initial dirt pile looked huge, it's quite possible that with all the soil compaction, we might not have enough soil for refilling. If that happens, new soil will be brought in, tested first, then added to the building pad area.

- Once the soil compaction is complete they will start the underground work for utilities and forming the concrete foundation.

Building For Family Update | July 27, 2022
by Stephen Marshall, Elder

- Excavation for the new building itself is finished! If you thought we were putting a giant swimming pool back there instead of a building, we would not blame you - that was a massive hole - but this week we’ve started the process of packing in the treated soil so that our new building foundation can be built on good soil. The surprising depth to which we were required to dig so that we could ensure our new building was built on good soil serves as a great reminder of the depths the Holy Spirit digs to in order to remove the brokenness and sin in our lives so He can replace it with good soil that can produce the fruit from Galatians 5:22-23: “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.” Pray that this new soil would be holy ground where our children and families impacted by disability would be filled with the fruit of the Spirit by salvation through Christ Jesus.

- More digging will happen this week as we excavate for utilities and a new fire hydrant and prepare for updates to curbs and ADA ramps around campus.

-Excavation of the pad for the new building has started. There is a lot of material that needs to be removed and treated as part of the process which may result in changes to construction fencing locations. Please be aware that parking on the west side of the sanctuary (next to Tiffany Lane entrance) may be significantly reduced in the coming weeks. If you are able, please use the parking structure on Sundays so the limited parking near the building can be reserved for attendees with limited mobility or visitors.

- Trenching and underground work for utilities and updates to ADA ramps will begin in the next couple weeks and will continue through mid-August. This is the time when we will experience the most impactful changes to construction keep outs. Please keep an eye out for updated communications and signage regarding parking and pedestrian traffic changes.

- The final parts of the trellis in the old elementary school playground were removed on 6.30 which was the final step to clearing the area for the start of demolition and ground work for the new building.

- Construction officially started with demolition on 7.5 with the sidewalk and asphalt being removed to allow for excavation for the new building foundation.

- Please keep an eye out for specific email messages over the next few months detailing changes to vehicle and pedestrian traffic changes that may result from the ongoing construction. (None planned at this time, but we do expect there will be in the coming weeks/months)

- Praise God for His provision and for bringing us to this exciting point in our church history. Please continue to pray for smooth interactions with contractors and safe and efficient execution of construction from here on out.

-We received our permit from the City of Pleasanton on Friday! With that and our loan, we are all set to start construction. Keep an eye out for changes to the campus every week.

-The play structure, trellis, and fencing were removed from the large playground in preparation for excavation. These will all be replaced with new equipment once the building is complete. The old equipment was not thrown away, but was passed on to Kings Classical Academy to be a tremendous blessing to the students and families of that school.

- We are continuing to work with the city on final forms and approvals for permits. There are a tremendous number of details in a project like this, and it appears we are nearing the end of the process. Pray for smooth final closure of the last few remaining open items and for continued favor with the city of Pleasanton.

- Line of Credit was recorded last week. We now have all the funding needed to ensure it will be completed. Construction will be able to start as soon as permits are approved.

- Paperwork for the line of credit approved by the congregation was signed on 6/8 and we are awaiting final recording of the loan as a precursor to starting construction. Pray for smooth approval and recording.

- Meeting held with the civil engineer regarding storm water handling on 6/9. Please pray for wisdom moving forward on multiple options regarding handling storm water run-off which comes with significant project cost implications. Current plan is the most expensive option, so we do not expect a cost increase at this time.

- Met with the Pleasanton permit office on Friday 6/10. There are a couple of outstanding issues that need to be resolved, but we are expecting to have permits in hand by the end of this week. We budgeted $240,000 for permit fees based on estimates from the architect, but due to the nature of our project and our status as a non-profit our fees have come out to approximately $55,000. Praise God for $185,000 savings.

- Initial construction fencing has been erected on site with more to come in the near future. Assuming loan is recorded this week and permits are granted, ground work will start the week of 6/20.

-Trees around the Friendship Class portable were removed last week so the first of the two portable can be removed on 6/2 in prep for ground breaking and start of construction.

-We have received the final contract and are completing the final checks before signing with the general contractor, Flory Construction. This is the same contractor who did the tenant improvements for Inklings.

-Our line of credit has been approved at Heritage Bank and we are waiting for final paperwork to sign before we start construction.

-We are very excited to break ground on the new building this Sunday and construction fencing and equipment will be on-site shortly after that. The first stages of construction will be trenching for storm water handling, new fire hydrant installation, and routing utilities for the new building. When the elders have a final construction timeline schedule, we will share that on the website.
